Residential roofing that holds up.
We roof houses. That's most of what we do. From small ranches in Napoleon to two-story homes out past Defiance, we handle every part of the job ourselves. No subcontractors, no handoffs.
If your roof is old, leaking, or took damage in a recent storm, we tear off the old material down to the deck, inspect the plywood, replace anything rotten, and put on a new system that's going to last. We don't roof over existing layers and call it done.
Andrew Piercefield, the owner, is on every residential job. He runs the crew, checks the work, and talks to you directly if anything comes up.
Materials that make sense for Ohio.
Northwest Ohio throws everything at a roof. Freezing rain in November. Ice dams in January. 60 mph wind in March. Then hail in June. The material you pick has to handle all of it.
Architectural shingles
This is what goes on most homes around here. Thicker than three-tab, rated for higher wind speeds, and available in dozens of color profiles. We install GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed. Typical lifespan is 25 to 30 years when installed correctly.
Standing seam metal
Metal does well in heavy snow country. It sheds ice, doesn't hold moisture, and can last 40 to 50 years. Higher upfront cost, but a lot of homeowners out in Henry and Defiance counties are going this direction. Especially on farmhouses and pole barn-style homes.
Impact-rated systems
If you've had hail claims, ask us about Class 4 impact-rated shingles. They cost a bit more, but some insurance carriers will give you a discount on your premium. Worth running the numbers. If your roof already has hail damage, we can also help file the insurance claim.

Built for freeze-thaw, wind, and hail.
Ohio roofs take a beating that most of the country doesn't understand. The freeze-thaw cycle alone will destroy a poorly installed roof in five years. Water gets under the shingles, freezes overnight, expands, and lifts everything around it. By spring you've got missing tabs and leaks in the attic.
We install ice and water shield at every eave and valley, not just where code requires it. We use hand-nailed starter strips in high-wind zones. And we make sure your ventilation is balanced so warm air doesn't sit against the deck and melt snow unevenly.
These are the details that separate a 15-year roof from a 30-year roof in this part of Ohio.
When to replace your roof vs repair it.
Not every leak means you need a new roof. We turn down jobs every week where a full replacement would be overkill. Here's how we think about it.
Repair makes sense when:
Your roof is under 15 years old and the damage is isolated. A few missing shingles after a windstorm. A vent boot that cracked. A valley that leaks in heavy rain. If the underlying deck is still solid and the rest of the shingles have life in them, there's no reason to tear off a whole roof. A good roof repair can buy you five or ten more years.
Replacement makes sense when:
Your roof is 20+ years old and you're seeing problems in multiple spots. Granules filling the gutters. Shingles curling at the edges. Soft spots when you walk on it. Leaks that keep showing up in new places after you patch the old ones. At that point, patching is just putting off the inevitable and spending money you won't get back.
If you're not sure which category you're in, that's what a free inspection is for. We climb up, document what we find, and tell you honestly. Sometimes the answer is "you've got another five years, don't spend the money yet." That happens more often than people think.
Residential roofing questions.
Most single-family homes in the Napoleon area run between $8,000 and $18,000 for a full tear-off and new architectural shingle roof. That range depends on the size of your roof, how many layers come off, and the material you pick. We give free estimates with no obligation.
Most homes in our area take one to three days from tear-off to final cleanup. Bigger or steeper roofs, or roofs with multiple layers to strip, can push that to four days. Weather is always a factor in NW Ohio.
Architectural shingles are the most common choice for homes in NW Ohio. They handle wind and hail well, come in a wide range of colors, and cost less upfront. Metal roofing lasts longer and holds up better in heavy snow, but the upfront cost is higher. We install both and can walk you through the tradeoffs for your specific house.
Yes. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and handle all the paperwork. You don't have to deal with any of it.
We provide a workmanship warranty in writing on every job. On top of that, your shingle or metal manufacturer provides a separate material warranty, typically 30 to 50 years on architectural shingles. We register that warranty for you at project completion.
What homeowners say.
"We put it off for a couple years too long, but we finally did it. We got our quote last Friday and the new roofs on our house, garage, and shed are done. A five-day turnaround. Ten out of ten craftsmanship and customer service."
"From start to finish Andrew and his crew were amazing. They came out, did a complete tear off, replaced my roof and gutters, and even installed gutter guards all in one day for an incredible price."
"Best roofers in the area. I got quotes from three companies and Big Horn was $3,000 cheaper than the other two. Backed by insurance, provided a warranty, and did a fantastic job."
