Big Horn Roofing crew performing roof repair work in Northwest Ohio

What we fix.

Most roof repairs in this part of Ohio come down to the same handful of problems. Freeze-thaw cycles beat shingles to death. Ice backs up under the drip edge. Pipe boots crack after a few years of UV and cold. Flashing separates where rooflines meet walls.

We see it every week across Henry, Defiance, and Wood counties. Here's what we handle:

  • Leak detection and repair
  • Missing or blown-off shingles
  • Flashing repair and replacement
  • Vent boot replacement
  • Valley repair
  • Ice dam damage
  • Soffit and fascia repair
  • Emergency tarping

If you're not sure what's going on up there, that's fine. We'll come out, climb up, and tell you exactly what we find. Book a free roof inspection and we'll go from there.

Northwest Ohio is hard on roofs.

We get real winters here. Temps swing from the 50s to single digits and back in the same week. That freeze-thaw cycle does more damage than most people realize. Water gets under a lifted shingle, freezes overnight, expands, and the next warm day it melts deeper into the underlayment.

Add in the wind that rips across the flat farmland between Defiance and Bowling Green, and you've got shingles peeling off roofs that are only ten years old. It doesn't mean the roof was installed wrong. It means Ohio weather doesn't care about your warranty.

We know what to look for because we've been repairing these same roofs for years. The fix is usually straightforward if you catch it early.

Repair or replace? We'll tell you straight.

Some roofers push a full replacement on every call because that's where the money is. That's not how we work. If your roof has another ten years in it and just needs a patch on the valley or a new pipe boot, that's what we'll tell you.

On the other hand, if the decking is rotting, the shingles are curling everywhere, and you've had three leaks in two years, Andrew will sit down with you and explain why a repair would just be throwing money away. You'll see the photos. You'll understand the scope. And you'll make the call yourself.

We'd rather do a $400 repair and earn your trust than sell you a $12,000 roof you didn't need yet. If the numbers do point toward a full tear-off, we can talk residential roofing options then.

How a repair job works.

Step 01

Call us

Tell us what's going on. Active leak, missing shingles, water stain on the ceiling. We'll schedule a time to come look.

Step 02

Inspection

We get on the roof, take photos, and check the attic if needed. We'll show you exactly what we found and what it'll take to fix it.

Step 03

Repair

Once you approve the estimate, we schedule and fix it. Most repairs take less than a day. We clean up and haul everything off.

Step 04

Follow-up

We check in after the next rain to make sure everything held. If something's off, we come back. Simple as that.

Common NW Ohio roof issues by season.

Different problems show up at different times of year around here. Knowing what to expect helps you catch issues before they turn into leaks.

Winter (December to February)

Ice dams are the big one. When warm air leaks up into your attic, it melts snow on the roof. That water runs down to the eaves, hits cold overhang, and refreezes. The ice dam pushes water back up under the shingles and into the house. We see a lot of attic moisture damage from this in Napoleon and Defiance. Usually a ventilation and insulation problem, not a shingle problem.

Spring (March to May)

This is when winter damage shows up. Missing shingles from February wind storms. Cracked pipe boots from freeze expansion. Popped nails. Leaks in valleys where ice sat all winter. If something broke over the winter, you'll find out in March when the rain starts.

Summer (June to August)

Hail is the main threat. Ohio gets hit hard in June and July. Hail bruises shingles even when you can't see the damage from the ground. If we had a hail event in your area, it's worth a free inspection. Insurance claims have time limits and damage gets harder to prove the longer you wait. We document and file through the storm damage process.

Fall (September to November)

Leaves clog gutters and valleys, which backs up water under the shingles. Wind damage from fall storms can rip off tabs. This is also the best time to do a free inspection before winter hits, so you don't end up dealing with a leak in January when it's 15 degrees out.

Roof repair questions.

It depends on the age of the roof and how widespread the damage is. A few missing shingles or a single leak around a pipe boot is usually a straightforward repair. But if the shingles are curling across the whole roof, the decking is soft, or you're patching the same spot for the third time, it's probably time to talk replacement. Andrew will walk you through it honestly.

Yes. We do emergency leak repairs year-round, including through Northwest Ohio winters. Cold weather limits some permanent repairs, but we can get a temporary fix in place fast and schedule the full repair when conditions allow. Don't wait on a leak. Water damage gets worse every day.

Small repairs like a vent boot replacement or a few missing shingles typically run a few hundred dollars. Larger repairs involving flashing, valleys, or multiple sections cost more. We give you a written estimate before any work starts, and there are no surprises on the invoice.

If the damage was caused by a storm, wind, or hail, your insurance will often cover it. Normal wear and tear is usually on you. We document everything with photos and can walk you through the storm damage and insurance process if your repair qualifies as a claim.

For active leaks, we treat it as a priority and typically get out within 24 to 48 hours. If water is coming in right now, call us at (419) 518-7799. We'll do what we can to get it stopped quickly.
